I like to think that in our minds -notions, -thoughts, -ideas, and -memories float like islands in a sea of inarticulate currents. These currents are the subconscious. They are the associations, relations between, and subjectivity. Constantly shifting, altering like waves.
The forms of each metal layer start from line drawings that are made from these inarticulable waters. The motivation and pull of lines and composition are the quiet associations and stories of space and relation. The lines’ curves, bends and interactions all have a story, character, and motivation. Done intuitively each line interaction is an event that can only be expressed in its physical manifestation.
Taking these drawings and piercing them in metal enables my drawings to have a kinetic quality. The movement of the lines continues and their amniotic story carries on. The addition of a simple animation encapsulates the sensations and feelings during the initial drawings, grounding the work.
